AWARDS
Madison Chemical Co., Inc. has been honored over the years with a variety of awards and certifications in recognition of our efforts to reduce our impact on the enviroment and provide exceptional service to our valued customers.
Governor's Awards
1996 - MADISON CHEMICAL'S FIRST GOVERNOR'S AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE IN POLLUTION PREVENTION
Award given for replacing large quantities
of cadmium with only trace amounts of
zinc and cobalt in a mixture used for
mechanical plating. This formula change was considered unique enough to warrant four (4) U.S. patents. An additional product reformulation of a water-based degreasing agent can replace
1-1-1 trichloroethane in some applications.
1997 - MADISON CHEMICAL'S SECOND GOVERNOR'S AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE IN POLLUTION PREVENTION
Three projects were involved in
achieving this award:
- Eliminating sodium nitrite from
32 products.
- Elimination of suspected
endocrine disrupters in more
than 133 products.
- Process change at a customer's
plant where a method of
drawing metal eliminated the need for sulfuric acid pickling and zinc phosphate
coating. This change removed the sulfuric acid and zinc compounds from both the
workplace and the environment.
1999 - MADISON CHEMICAL'S FIRST GOVERNOR'S AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE IN RECYCLING
100 % employee
participation in
segregating trash and
recyclables in the office
and plant. More innovative
practices include
recycling rinse water in the manufacturing process. Redesigned process removes raw, hazardous materials, such as iodine, chromium
and zinc from the rinse water.
Madison Chemical is aggressive about chemical drum reuse. Company drivers pick up empty containers from customers at no charge. Drums are recycled by the truckload by an offsite drum reconditioning vendor and then purchased for reuse.
1999 - MADISON CHEMICAL'S UNPRECEDENTED THIRD GOVERNOR'S AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE IN POLLUTION PREVENTION
Award given for joint project with one of our
customers, Rotary Lift.
Rotary Lift and Madison Chemical combined efforts to achieve Rotary's objective to improve the corrosion resistance of the sheath pins used in production of their lifts. Existing "blackening process" for corrosion resistance employed oxalic acid and heavy metal solutions. Madison Chemical replaced that process with a standard iron phosphate process.
2005 - MADISON CHEMICAL'S FOURTH GOVERNOR'S AWARD FOR ENVIRONMENTAL EXCELLENCE - 5 YEARS CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT
Award given for compilation
of several projects
resulting from our Environmental
Management System (EMS) that has led
to significant environmental benefits.
- Reduced SARA 313 reportable
materials in products by 42%.
- Replaced an average of 50,000
pounds per year of glycol ethers with
a new advanced surfactant
technology.
- Reduced solid waste by 25% per
pound produced.
- Reduced electrical consumption by
7%.
- Reduced hazardous waste generation to become a conditionally
exempt small quantity generator.
2008 - MADISON CHEMICAL RECOGNIZED BY STATE ENVIRONMENTAL AGENCY
